image Dear All,

We have rescheduled citizens' press conference for tomorrow 25th April 2008 at KICC Garden Square at 11am. The agenda for press conference remains as previously communicated.
Press Invitation/To the News Editor: We, the citizens drawn from different groupings of grassroot Kenyans meeting under the umbrella of Bunge La Mwananchi, are concerned by, amongst others:
  1. the threat to survival of grassroot Kenyans by the high inflation that is causing basic commodities price to sky rocket;
  2. the continued lip-service from the Government of Kenya’s over the lack of jobs for the young people who are able and willing to work;
  3. the expensive social welfare program of our Members of Parliament as evidenced by the obscene salaries and allowances paid by the Government of Kenya to them in a nation where 50% of the population can hardly afford a meal a day for their children; and
In effort to push grassroot Kenyans distress call to the Government of Kenya’s and the World’s attention, Bunge La Mwananchi hereby invite the national and international media for a press conference on Friday, 25th April, 2008 at 11am at Garden Square, Nairobi, Kenya. We the citizens will be giving the Government of Kenya an ultimatum of seven days to remove taxes on essential commodities e.g. flour, rice, sugar, oil etc failure to which we will organize citizens mass demonstration in Nairobi and other parts of the country.

Bunge La Mwananchi is a people’s institution with countrywide grassroot network forums where Kenyans from all walks of life meet to discuss issues that affect their day to day lives with the aim of consolidating their voice and pushing their agenda into national debates.
