Madaraka Party Boycotts 2007 Elections
Will Stage Hunger Strikes Until Constitutional Reforms are enacted in Kenya

Nairobi--Wed, 14 Nov 2007 19:55:12 +0000 (GMT)--Coalition for Constitutional Reforms today announced that it affiliate organizations including Madaraka Party has pulled out of the forthcoming general elections due to the failure to enact a new constitution. To raise awareness about Kenya's failed democracy, the coalition will hold a series of hunger strikes indefinitely -at home and abroad-until a new constitution is realized. In a statement, the coalition accused the outgoing parliament of betraying Kenyans by frustrating constitutional reforms and only focusing on elections in order to legitimize arbitrary rule and plunder of resources.

The first hunger strike starts outside the Kenyan High Commission, in Ottawa, Canada. The coalition plans to stage hunger strikes at Freedom Square, Nairobi from Election Day onwards.
